The region covers a huge geographical swathe, extending from Gangtok to Port Blair. The wide sweep of the taxing jurisdiction of the Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, West Bengal and Sikkim extends over West Bengal, Sikkim and the Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, administered through offices spread over 23 locations in the region. The region boasts of having had numerous Nobel Laureates as its assessees, including Rabindranath Tagore and C. V. Raman
